Critical Safety Devices (CSDs) are often the final layer of engineered protection within a unit operation – designed to prevent escalation of events such as fires, explosions, or toxic releases. Unlike Basic Process Control System (BPCS) interlocks, CSDs are not intended for routine operational control and are not reliant on administrative procedures or human intervention.
